Lindsay and Nathan Lindeberg founded Native Spring Farm in 2004 on 50 acres in the foothills of Walker Mountain in Giles County, VA. One of the biggest challenges Lindsay and Nathan faced was creating productive soil by removing rocks and terracing the sloping land. Their goal is to expand the vegetable and flower plots each year, while maintaining them using hand tools for minimal soil disturbance. They have also developed a passion for beekeeping and since 2008 care for nine hives, which has proven to be a fascinating and rewarding adventure for them. Lindsay and Nathan’s favorite times on the farm include the arrival of spring, growing seedlings, and enjoying the taste of each season.
Both their farm and apiary are Certified Naturally Grown, a grassroots alternative to the United States government’s Certified Organic program. At the Blacksburg Farmers Market their tables are full of heirloom tomatoes, peppers, carrots, green beans, squash, onions, garlic, lettuce, peas, cucumbers, asparagus, herbs, and blackberries. They also offer unique cut flowers, annual and perennial seedlings, and colorful cards with photos of the flowers at their best.
Lindsay and Nathan make handcrafted bath and body products from ingredients they grow and selectively purchase for purity. They offer a variety of Cold Process soap made with pure essential oils, plant/herb derived colors, and natural exfoliants.
Lindsay says, “It makes us happy to create a sustainable life for ourselves while contributing positively to our community.”
