Our Impact
Making Fresh, Local Food Accessible to All
At the Blacksburg Farmers Market, we are committed to ensuring that everyone in our community has access to fresh, nutritious, and locally grown food. Through inclusive programs like SNAP/EBT acceptance and Virginia Fresh Match, we make healthy eating more affordable while supporting our local farmers and food producers.
SNAP/EBT Accepted at Select Vendors
Select vendors at our Market accept SNAP/EBT benefits, making it easy for families to purchase a wide variety of eligible foods, including fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy products, and more. Simply visit the Market Information Tent to swipe your EBT card and receive tokens to spend with vendors.
Double Your SNAP Dollars with Virginia Fresh Match
Thanks to our partnership with Virginia Fresh Match, your SNAP benefits go even further. For every dollar you spend using SNAP/EBT, you receive a dollar-for-dollar match in market tokens, up to $50 per visit. That means more fresh produce for your family and more support for our local farmers.
Are you new to using EBT?
Check out this video and discover how easy it is to use your EBT at the Farmers Market. Buy local, eat healthy!
Supporting Community Health and Local Agriculture
By participating in these programs, you're not only nourishing your family with healthy, local food but also contributing to the vitality of our regional economy. Every dollar spent at the Market helps sustain small farms and strengthens our community's food system.
For more information on how to use SNAP/EBT at the Market and take advantage of Virginia Fresh Match, please visit the Market Information Tent during your next visit.
Farmers Emergency Fund
The Farmers Emergency Fund is a vital safety net for our farmer vendors, offering support during times of unexpected crisis. It’s hard to make a living as a farmer, even under the best conditions. Small farms operate within such tight margins that just one emergency can lead to a financial disaster.
Our Farmers’ Emergency Fund assists our farmer vendors in crisis. Funds help mitigate financial fallout from situations such as crop loss from extreme weather, equipment or infrastructure damage or loss from fire, flood, or heavy snow, or predator-related livestock loss.
This fund is part of a trailblazing effort—fewer than 1% of farmers’ markets nationwide offer this kind of support. Out of approximately 8,000 markets across the U.S., only 50–100 provide an emergency fund like this, based on our research. We're proud to stand behind our farmers when they need it most.
Community Soup Dinner
Join us for the Community Soup Dinner at the Blacksburg Farmers Market—a heartwarming evening of food and fellowship supporting a great cause. Enjoy a delicious meal of soup, salad, dinner roll, and dessert, all generously donated by our market vendors. Your suggested donation of $12 helps fund our SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) efforts, making fresh, local food more accessible to all. Come hungry, leave inspired!
The event will be held on Wednesday, September 10th, between 4PM and 6PM at Market Square in Blacksburg, VA. Music will be provided by Kat Mills and is sponsored by Roots Realty Group!
